Lists
Back to the guide
A list is a saved subset of one object's records. Lists appear under their object in the sidebar.
What a list is for
A filter answers a question once. A list is a thing you keep working on: the accounts you are contacting this quarter, the bankers to call back, the companies in diligence.
Two things make it more than a saved search.
It can have columns of its own. Add a Priority or Owner column to your outreach list and it exists on that list only. The Accounts object stays clean for everyone else.
Membership is recorded. Adding a record to a list appears on that record's timeline, so months later it is visible that this company was part of that push.
Working in a list
A list behaves like the object table. Browse, edit in place, add columns, page through it the same way. See Records for the paging controls.
Two differences:
- The page is not part of the address, so Back from a record returns you to the first page rather than where you were.
- A kanban view of a list loads every entry rather than one page.
Adding and removing
Add records to a list from the object table. Remove from list takes a record off without deleting it — the record and everything on it stays.
Delete the list removes the list and its own columns. The records stay where they were.
Lists from imports
Importing a spreadsheet can create a list of exactly what was imported. That is worth doing: it gives you a record of what arrived in that batch, which is the quickest way to review or undo an import that went wrong.
Loading
A list opens with its first hundred rows and loads the next hundred as you reach the bottom, so a list of several thousand opens as quickly as a short one. Filtering happens on the server, so it applies to the whole list rather than the part you have scrolled through.
