Sending deals in by email
Back to the guide
Uploading works, but it means somebody has to do it. The alternative is to let bankers send books to an address that files them automatically.
Your firm's address
Every firm has its own inbound address, in the form:
deals+yourfirm@inbound.<domain>
The exact address is shown on the Screener page. It is specific to your firm, and deals sent to it can only ever appear in your firm's account.
Two ways to use it
Forward what you already receive. Set one rule in Gmail or Outlook that forwards mail from your deal flow address to the inbound address. Nothing changes for the bankers who send to you, and nothing else in your mailbox is read.
Give the address out. Bankers send directly to it. Faster, but it means the address is in other people's address books.
Most firms start with forwarding, because it needs nothing from anyone outside the firm and can be turned off again by deleting one rule.
What arrives
An incoming email becomes a deal exactly as an upload does. The attachment is read, scored and banded the same way.
A few details worth knowing:
- The attachment is used if there is one. If several are attached, the largest PDF is treated as the document.
- A forwarded email with no attachment still becomes a deal. Some bankers put the whole teaser in the body of the message, so the text is kept and read.
- The sender becomes the deal's provenance. Who sent it and which firm they are from appear on the deal, so you can see where a book came from months later.
- Deeluge works out what it is. Teaser or CIM is decided by reading it, since an email does not say.
Seen before
If the same opportunity arrives again, perhaps because a banker re-launched a process or two people forwarded the same book, the deal is marked Seen before.
It is still scored. The badge tells you this is not new, so you can look at what you decided last time instead of starting again.
What this does not do
- It does not read your mailbox. Only what is sent or forwarded to the inbound address arrives, and nothing else is visible to Deeluge.
- It does not reply to the banker.
- It does not log the email against a CRM record. That is what connecting a mailbox does, which is a separate feature under Emails.
