Searching
Back to the guide
One box searches everything: records of every object, lists, reports, deals, tasks, notes, your own emails, and the application's own pages and settings.
Opening it
Select Search at the top of the left panel, or press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows, from any page.
A window opens in the middle of the screen with the cursor already in the box.
Before you type anything it lists every page and setting under Go to, so it doubles as a way of jumping straight to a screen without hunting for it.
Searching
Type at least two letters. Results appear as you type, grouped under headings in a fixed order:
| Heading | What it finds |
|---|---|
| Records | Up to 8 records from any object whose name matches, with the object's icon and name |
| Pages | Pages and settings, such as Bulk changes or Team |
| Objects | Objects whose name matches |
| Lists | Lists whose name matches |
| Reports | Dashboards and the reports on them |
| Tasks | Task titles, with Open or Done, the record it is on, and the due date |
| Notes, calls and meetings | Note text, showing the words around the match, the kind, and the record |
| Deals | Screener deals by company or email subject, with the date received |
| Your emails | Your own mailbox, by subject, sender name or sender address |
Records that start with what you typed come first, then the most recently changed. Each heading after Records shows up to five results, and headings with nothing to show are left out entirely.
If nothing matches, the window says Nothing matches and repeats what you typed.
Choosing a result
With the keyboard: ↓ and ↑ move the highlight, wrapping from the bottom back to the top, and Enter opens it.
With the mouse: select the result.
The window closes and the page opens. A task opens the record it is on, or the Tasks page if it is on no record. An email opens a record it is logged on, or the Emails page.
To close without opening anything: Esc, ⌘K or Ctrl+K again, or select outside the window.
You only find what you could already open
Search never becomes a way around permissions.
- Restricted records and objects stay hidden, and so do the notes and tasks on them
- Lists only if you can open the list
- Dashboards shared with the firm, plus your own private ones. Other people's private dashboards are never found
- Deals except restricted ones you have not been given. Archived deals are not searched
- Emails only from your own connected mailbox, and only for owners, admins and analysts. Teammates' emails are never searched, because your firm may be hiding their subjects from you
- Pages and settings only those your role can open
Nothing from another firm is ever found.
What you cannot do yet
- Find a record by anything but its name. An email address, a phone number or a note's author will not match.
- Search inside email bodies. They are stored encrypted, so only subjects and senders are searched.
- Find banker firms and contacts from Data.
- See recent searches or recently opened records.
- Jump to the exact task or note. Opening one takes you to its record, not to the entry itself.
