Adding a teaser or CIM
Back to the guide
There are two ways a deal gets into Deeluge: you upload it, or a banker emails it to an address that files it for you. This page covers uploading. For the second, see Sending deals in by email.
Viewers cannot upload. Analysts, admins and owners can.
Uploading
- Open Screener.
- Select Upload teaser or Upload CIM, depending on which you have.
- Choose the file.
The button shows Uploading… while the file transfers. When it finishes, the deal appears in the list and starts being read.
Which button to use
The two buttons do the same thing with one difference: they tell Deeluge what kind of document it is receiving, and that changes what is expected of it.
A teaser is short and leaves things out by design. It is judged on what a teaser should contain, and the question it answers is whether to ask for the full book.
A CIM is the full book. It is held to a higher standard, and the completeness checklist will tell you what is missing from it.
Choosing wrongly is not serious. Re-evaluate the deal afterwards and it is read again.
File types
PDF, PowerPoint and Word are all accepted. Office files are converted to PDF as they arrive, so what you read later is a PDF whatever you uploaded.
If a file will not convert, export it to PDF yourself and upload that.
What happens next
The deal appears in the list straight away with a Scoring badge. Reading it takes from a few seconds for a short teaser to a few minutes for a long CIM, because the whole document is read rather than skimmed.
You do not have to wait on the page. The deal scores in the background and the list shows the result when you come back.
The steps are:
- The document is classified, to confirm what it actually is.
- The figures are extracted, with the page each one came from.
- The figures are scored against your buy box.
- The result is banded: pursue, review or pass.
See How a deal is scored for what happens in step three.
If something goes wrong
A deal that could not be read shows a Failed badge. The usual causes are a scanned document with no text in it, or a file that did not convert.
Select Re-evaluate to try again. If it fails a second time, the document probably has no machine-readable text, and the honest answer is that it needs a person.
What you cannot do yet
- Upload more than one file at a time.
- Search the deal list, or filter it by industry, state or band. The only filter is All, Teasers and CIMs.
- Select several deals at once.
- Restore a deal after deleting it. Deleting removes the documents with it.
